During the aging process, shared experiences have shown that Wine producers lose valuable quantities of wine to evaporation, through the barrels. To counter this, keeping high quality humidity without wetness in barrel storage rooms, helps reduce evaporation of wine from the barrels, as well as reduce the labour intensive process of topping up [the activity of adding wine to each barrel during the natural aging process]. Unlike in the past, today, wineries need advanced humidification techniques, to raise the humidity to levels well above 90% [ideal for wine being 95%], and as result cut the loss to evaporation. It however remains critical, that the barrels remain absolutely dry on the outside, to ensure molding is prevented, which would lead to damaged barrels and wine.
